Does the file type matter?
Less than you might think. The recording inside the file matters far more than the container around it: a clean, close MP3 of solo piano transcribes better than a WAV recorded across a noisy room. That said, heavily compressed or re-recorded audio loses the fine detail note detection works from, so use the highest-quality file you have.

Built for solo piano
This tool listens for one instrument: piano. A recording of a band, a singer over piano, or a video soundtrack will produce extra and wrong notes, because voices and drums share the piano's frequencies. Solo piano in a reasonably quiet room is where the transcription is at its best.

Honest limits
Where you will still proofread.
Automatic transcription is a first draft, not a finished score. The free 30-second preview exists so you can see exactly that on your own recording before paying anything.
Solo piano only
Voice, drums or other instruments in the mix confuse note detection. Isolate the piano first, or transcribe that part by ear.
Sustain pedal blurs endings
Ringing strings can merge note endings into overlaps. The score carries no pedal marks — check note lengths where you pedalled.
One tempo, one meter
The score assumes a single tempo and time signature. Free rubato comes out as written — often as complicated rhythms worth simplifying.
Hands are a guess
The left/right split around middle C is inferred. Move notes between staves in a notation app if it doesn’t match how you play.
No repeats or dynamics
The PDF writes out every note once, with no repeat barlines, dynamics or articulation marks — add those when you proofread.
Room echo reads as notes
Reverb and background noise can appear as stray notes, especially in the bass. A closer, quieter recording fixes most of it.
Every purchase includes the MusicXML file, so a wrong note is a few seconds' work in MuseScore, Sibelius or Dorico — not a reason to start again.

It is built for solo piano. Other instruments and voices share the piano’s frequencies and produce wrong notes. For mixed audio, isolate the piano first or expect heavy editing.
What happens to my MP3 after I upload it?
Your recording is used only to create your files and is deleted from our servers within 24 hours. A file you don’t buy is deleted after 24 hours; a file you buy stays downloadable for one year.
